Update Thurs- sat.

Today was a pretty great Saturday. Snowy and cold, but very enjoyable.
Lets back up to Thursday first ( yes, I know, what a slacker that I haven’t blogged since Wed – sorry) I did get my long run in Wed BTW - 6 miles felt great!

Thursday I taught spin early in the am to about 20 freezing men and women who managed to push through the cold weather outside for a nice sweat session inside. I had a few clients after and then worked 2-6. After work I came home and Matt and Greg were in the kitchen  getting ready for Family Dinner. I love Thursday Family Dinners!

It was Matts turn to cook, and cook he did! Wow, we had a TON of food! Our friend Adam headed out to Buffalo yesterday with his girlfriend who is also our close friend Kathy in order to run a 100 mile trail race that started at 10am this morning. Yes, 100 miles.  In Buffalo.  In January.  Wish him good luck. The website for the Beast of Burden 100 Miler & 24-Hour Ultra is here.Beast of Burden 100 Miler & 24-Hour Ultra

Because of this Matt wanted to help him carb load, and I mean really, who is going to say no to some extra carbs? Matt made mac and cheese, a giant baked ham, and corn chowder in the crock pot. Everything was fantastic!! I finally found my camera today, but it was not in time to document this glorious meal. Sad.

Yesterday I had a few clients and then joined Stacy for a slippery slow 3 miles just to get out and run a bit. The sidewalks were a little slick and snow covered from the snow we received Thursday night. It was worth it though, and we managed to run all 3 without falling or slipping to badly.

Last night Greg, Matt and I headed out to get burgers and then came home and wached Friends With Benefits.  I thought the movie was pretty good, I would watch it again, but probanly not purchase it.

Today I babysat and then had a client. I got home and lounged around since it was still snowing and cold. I hung around  until everyone decided to go get a workout in. Greg and Matt headed to their gym, while I went to the BSC in Davis. I would have joined them, but it was a 20 dollar day pass which seemed ridiculous since I could just run ½ mile from their gym to a BSC. I had a great workout, which included a 30 min cardio session, some kettlebell work and core work. Done and done for a Saturaday.

Now Greg and I are on to making a greek pizza! Can’t wait.
Have a great weekend

No Running or Sleeping = Problem

Yesterday I trained a few clients in the morning and then came home to organize a bunch of grad school information.
Later, I headed back to the gym and thought I would go for a run after. I texted Stacy and it turned out she was busy with her big kid job as a science geek ( her words, not mine) and couldn't run. Sad day.

Usually I would have ran on my own, but I was really under motivarted. I ended up getting in a great workout though. It  included squats, snatches, and a pull up, chest press, burpee sequence. Sore legs today!

I haven’t ran since Fri of last week. I don’t know what has gotten into me, but with the super cold weather all weekend I couldn’t drag myself out the door. I did manage to spin Monday though so that was some progress.

Part of me is fine with this, as I have a long run planned today and I think it's probably okay to allow my body to rest before I beat it up for 18 weeks of marathon training. The other part has noticed that I’m not sleeping as well. I think I need running in my life as a way to relieve stress. I had a terrible time sleeping last night even though I knew I had to get up around 4:45 for a 5:45 client. I tossed and turned and eventually got up and paid our gas and electric bill that’s not even due until the end of the month. It was on my mind, and I couldn’t stop thinking about it, and the plethora of other things I needed to get done today and this week.

Usually I run and I think about these things so I kill two birds with one stone as they say. Since my running had decreased, my things to think about have increased. This is not productive, so next time I ho and hum about going for a run I’m going to keep in mind that A) I want to finish this marathon alive and B) I neeeeed running in my life so I don’t become and overwhelmed sleep deprived terror. Dramatic? Yes. But, potentially true.

Last night Gregs aunt came over for dinner which was lots of run. Greg made garlicky, eggplant, and shrimp stirfry and I grabbed a few sweet treats from a bakery on my way home from work. We had a great time chatting and sharing stories from when Greg was a little kid. I love those stories, they make me smile and sad that I didn’t know him as a kid.

Tonight I'm headed out to dinner with one of my clients/friends to celebrate her new job. It should be fun.
Happy Wednesday everyone!

One week

One week until Marathon training starts!! This may seem crazy but I am soo soo excited to start my training.  I love running and I love structure. Thank you marathon training for combining both of these for me! I'll be sure to post my training and the good, the bad, and the ugly of it all!

Greg was in Utah all weekend so Sat I spent working and running errands and Sunday I spent relaxing. Sat I did managed to get over to Davis Sq to see Gregs aunt for lunch. It was great to see her and it was a delicious lunch. Carrot ginger soup with cranberry nut bread. Mmmm. Chocolate chip cookies for desert. I like lunch dates!!

I stopped by the Star Market in Davis on my way home and found that they have new flavors of Chobani yogurt. I grabbed the passion fruit and the blood orange. I didn't really like the passion fruit, but  I’m really into the blood orange flavor.

I’ve had a bit of a sore throat so I’m trying to lay low for the next few days so I can start training on a healthy note.

I made chicken and sausage gumbo in the slow cooker last night for dinner. I haven’t made much in the slow cooker in the past, but it was so fast and easy that I was embarrassed I hadn’t given it more of an effort. This is the recipe below. I found it on foodnetwork.com I thought it was really good. I served it with rice. It was spicy and filling. Just what we needed on a cold night in Boston.

Happy MLK day! I spent today working. I planned to run, but I decided on a spin class instead. Tonight I made mustard baked fish, potatoes, and brussel sprouts. I looooove Brussel sprouts. I could eat them every day.

Happy Monday everyone! Quick post for today, I need to get a few more things done before bed and a busy day tomorrow.

I hope a few of you were lunch enough to have the day off!

Cookies, pizza, and running. Perfect combo!

Happy Friday everyone!!

I hope you all had a wonderful day!

For me this Friday was filled with fun, productivity, running, and relaxation.

I got in an early morning gym session this am with Stacy before I had a few clients. My first client of the day is training for his first road race which I hope will be a 5k sometime in Feb. I was looking into the Freedom Trail Runs that happen every weekend in Boston. I am really excited for him and he has been wonderful to work with because of how motivated he is!

After a few more clients I headed home to get some paperwork taken care of and to find a new doctor. Every time in the past year that I have gone to the doctors I have found out that my doctor had left the practice. This happened to me twice in one year. Not completely impressed, so I spent this morning researching doctors and I think I finally found one. Now I wont have to worry if I get a sore throat or ear infection that I will get to the office and not have a doctor. Success.

After this I headed out for a run. A short 3 miles, but it was fast, around 8:50-8:40 per mile and the weather was beautiful. It was about 50 degrees outside and I ran in a T shirt for the first time in months. I managed to get my run in just before the wind picked up and the temp started to drop.

I had another client at 1pm and then work til 6. After work I picked up a small pizza I had placed an order for and headed home. I ordered a small pomodoro pizza which was red sauce with mozerella, and I added spinach and broccoli to it.

After 2 slices I ate an apple and then started to get things together to make some chocolate chip cookies.
Matt bought a new mixer a month or so ago so I plugged it in and got to bakin! Yummm.

In between cookie batches I ordered vitamins online. Its been a great productive Friday.

Greg is still in Utah but he comes back Sunday so I wont have to miss him for too many more days. Sappy I know… haha

Have a fun, and safe night everyone!

Rain rain go away

Yup, you guessed it. It rained allll day long today. I ran the mile to work this morning in order to teach spin and I didn’t think the weather was that bad. I thought I might even be able to manage a run in it later. This thought quickly left my mind after I finished teaching spin and after my first client. I headed back outside to go home and was hit with cold rain and lots of wind. No thanks.

I hung around the apartment getting a few odds and ends done until I met Stacy at the gym for a workout. We wanted to have a quick StairMaster session just to sweat and chat a bit. Once we got to the gym the two steppers that were side by side were broken. Sad.  We ended up on ellipticals. I’m not a huge fan of the elliptical, not for any specific reason, I just always feel very awkward on it.

After 20 min of chatting we did a little core work and went our separate ways. Until tomorrow.

I worked 2-6 and then came home to make dinner. It was an exhausting few hours of work  so when I came home I really just wanted to stay put.

I bailed on family dinner tonight. I still feel bad about it, but honestly I didn’t have the energy to make it back out the door after I got home.

Instead I threw together some dinner by cooking some spaghetti, adding some sauteed chopped up cabbage and some cooked chicken together in a bowl and added a little Thai peanut sauce. I usually put a little more thought and care into dinner but Greg is in Utah and I was honestly just that tired.

It turned out pretty well and I would consider making it again. Maybe with rice noodles?

Tomorrow will be a busy day but that’s fine by me. I have errands I have to run and clients I have to train, but overall I am looking forward to Friday.

I am also looking forward to beginning my Marathon training soon!! More to come in the next week or two!

Sushi and Big Bird

Yesterday was busy in a good way! I was pretty sore from Monday so I didn’t bother working out in the gym or even trying to. I had an early morning client and then had a long meeting with my boss at the gym. Nothing in particular to talk about, he just likes to talk. A lot. More than anyone I have ever met.

I headed out for a short 3.5 mile slow run with Stacy at 12. I was really sore and didn’t have the energy for a fast run. It was nice to get out and about though and to chat and get some fresh air.

After our run I worked until 6 and had made plans to meet up with Greg for a Sushi date. We headed over to Ginger Exchange in Inman sq for a nice relaxing dinner.

We don’t often go out during the week. We try really hard to plan our weekly meals out and get the groceries for them on Sunday when we go shopping. This week was a little different since Greg was headed out on a ski/snowboard trip with his dad this morning until Sunday.

I took Greg to the airport around 5am this morning. He is headed out to Snow Bird in Utah. I continued to forget where he was going however, and every time someone asked I said Big Bird. I know this is incorrect and I am sure I sounded very dumb when I said it but it was the only thing I could think of. I think I was trying to combine Big Sky and Snow Bird. I realize one is in Utah the other in Montana but it’s all I could manage when people asked. Greg has since told me many many times that he is in Snow Bird. What a great girlfriend I am huh?

I swear I listen when he talks, I just could never come up with the name. I think Big Bird sounds funny anyhow so I may continue to say it just because it makes me laugh.

Hope everyone is having a nice night.
