I’m a wimp.

Yesterday was a great day, but it didn’t go as planned.

I woke up early for an 8am client who no-showed. Womp womp. I had then planned for a 6 mile run with Stacy. She had 13 on the books and agreed to meet me at 9 to run. Unfortunately when I woke up it was 15 degrees, 0 with the wind chill and winds clocking in around 15-20mph. I texted Stacy to see if we could run later around 10 or 11 in hopes that it warmed up a bit.

No such luck. It did warm up to 20 degrees, but the wind increased to 20-30 mph gusts. In the end I wimped out. I didn’t do my Sunday long run. I felt so guilty all day and really had a hard time accepting that I didn’t run until around 2pm.

Greg, Matt and I ventured into downtown Boston to get some shopping/errands done. We headed back to the red line around 2 and had to walk through the park. The wind was blowing hard! It was so so so cold. My nose hurt and my eyes were watering non-stop. This was enough validation that I had made the right decision. The wind alone would have made me miserable. I guess looking at the big picture I’m happy it was a 6 mile run I missed, not a 13-16 mile run.

I’m not entirely sure what to do about my missed run in terms of my training. I thought about just adding on a mile to each run this week? Bad plan? Great plan? I’m not sure, but I'm determined to figure it out.

After a little shopping with the boys, I headed to the gym for a quick workout on the bike and then had 2 clients.

The best part of the day, or the week, maybe even in the last few months came at 6:30.

Greg and I had reservations for Craige on Main to celebrate Valentines day/our anniversary. I know I know, we already went out to dinner for that a few weeks ago but this dinner seemed extra special.

Greg and I sat at the Chefs Table. This meant we  sat at a bar in front of the open kitchen so we could see and hear EVERYTHING that was going on in the kitchen. Greg said it best that it was like watching the foodnetwork for 3 hours. It was amazing! The kitchen staff was cool calm and fairly collected when this got stressful and busy and we watched them relax and chatter when it was slower.

Our dinner was 100% amazing! I’ll blog a post later all about our meal and what we ate, loved, and were too full to finish!

Onto running…
This week:
Monday -  miles ( already done)
Tuesday – strength and spin
Wednesday – 4 by 800
Thursday – 4 miles and spin
Friday – rest
Sat – 6 miles
Sunday –  12 miles
These spin classes are classes I teach, not just do for fun. Although teaching is always a great time!!

Happy Monday everyone

Sam Adams

Last night I ended up babysitting until nearly 11. I was exhausted and came home and crashed hard.

This morning I had 3 miles on the schedule so I sucked it up and headed out this morning around 7am in the rain/snow. I forgot my ipod at work yesterday so my run was filled with me singing to myself and trying to convince myself I wasn't getting frost bite on my face. The run felt pretty good. I kept it slower, around a 9:15-9:20 pace. 33 and raining was just not doing it for me today.

After my run, I babysat for one of my clients and then had a client. I was done around 1 and Greg and Matt met me at work to head over to the Sam Adams Brew Tour.

We took the red line to the orange line and met up with our friend Brook for a fun filled afternoon of brew tasting.

We learned a lot and got to taste a few good beers in the process. Three to be exact. We also were able to keep our small beer glasses with admissiont o the tour. The tour was free, but they accepted and encouraged donations. The money went to two different charities in Boston the Sam Adams in involved in.
I’m not usually a big beer drinker, but I did like the beers and thought the atmosphere was really fun.

Sam Adams had a special deal that if you brought your admission ticket over to Doyles pub in Jamaica Plains you would receive a free pint glass with an order of a beer. We decided to give this a go and took the free trolley over. The trolley was fun. Lots of people, and loud music- Journey: don’t stop believing was belted out.

Greg, Matt, Brook and I decided to share some appetizers with our beers. I ordered a hard cider because honestly, I had fulfilled my beer fix for the day…maybe the week?

The food was not very good. We ordered nachos which were nothing more than some round tortilla rounds and shdredded cheese. Boo. I could have made better at home.

We headed home after and are currently relaxing and watching a movie.

Enjoy your Sat everyone! I’ve got a cold 6 mile run in the books for tomorrow morning.

Physics overload.

Since I have completely neglected the blog world since Monday I figure I better have a good excuse. My excuse is physics based. We had a lot of homework due this week ( yesterday to be exact) and since I was busy  last weekend I busted it out over the last 3 days. So. Happy. To. Be. DONE!

Running life:
Monday was supposed to be a rest and strength day, but instead of the “rest” part, I went to spin.  I didn’t really work hard, but I thought my sore legs could use some movement. I then proceeded to run 5.5 miles on Tue instead of the 3 I was supposed to. This was due mostly to stress. I needed to run and think and be outside. I figured this was fine since I was supposed to do 5 on wed, so I thought I would just switch them. That didn’t happen because Wed I was SUPER sore!! I guess 5 miles, 10 miles, spin, 5 miles, is not a good sequence for the legs when your stressed and tired.

I didn’t run Wed. I was tired. I was sore. And I was filled with every excuse in the book. Wed= rest day.
Yesterday I taught spin in the morning and then dragged myself onto the treadmill to get 3 miles done. It was torture! I just can’t hack the treadmill. I can’t get into any type of groove and I feel slow and awkward. Imagine watching a ball in the pin ball machine… this is how I feel on the treadmill. I feel like I am constantly trying not to hit the sides.I didn't bring warm clothing for outdoor running to spin which is how I ended up on the treadmill.

Last night we went out to dinner to celebrate the birthdays of two of our friends. We were supposed to be at cuchi cuchi  at 6:30. Unfortunately I had to work until 7:30 so I was fashionably late. I met up with everyone for some wonderful tapas and some fruity drink that Greg had ordered for me when he knew I was on my way over. So sweet. It was great to see everyone. It was basically the same crew from “family dinner” but this time we were out on the town! It was such a fun atmosphere and the food was delicious. Apparently I am quite a fan of lamb… who knew? Check it out if your in Cambridge! It’s a little expensive but worth it.

Today is my actual rest day, and I intend to do just that. I had a few clients this morning and now I am home with Greg who is home sick today. We might head over to the library in a bit and then I am babysitting this evening.

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you have fun things planned for the weekend!

Catch up

This weekend was a busy family filled weekend. It really put into perspective how important it is to tell those you love, that you love them – every day, and to make sure they know they are appreciated. Not to get too sappy, but just remember to love and give with everything you can. #End sappy intro.

On that note, I think the best way to attack this post and catch up from Wednesday is in bullet point form.

Thursday:
  • ·       Spin class and clients in the morning
  • ·       Cold 3 mile run with Stacy
  • ·       Gregs Aunt and Grandmother were in town earlier than the rest of his family so we headed out to dinner with them. It was Gregs Aunt from Ohio, his aunt from Davis and his grandmother. It was a really nice time. We got Chinese food somewhere along on Mass ave.  It was really good , although mine was spicier than I anticipated.
Friday

  • ·        Friday was thankfully a rest day!  My body was tired and I was happy not to have to run or cross train. I usually crave some type of physical activity during the day but I fought that mental battle and filled my day with much more fun productive things instead.
  • ·        I baked cookies. Lots and lots of cookies! I knew Gregs family was coming into ton so I baked them for his family, and a bunch extra to give away to some other people. I must admit I’ve eaten probably as many as I’ve given away, but they are pretty tasty so I cant help myself.
  • ·        Friday night we went over to the hotel that Gregs family was staying at and hung out and ordered BBQ from Blue Ribbon. It was a TON of food. Seriously, the containers were at least a pound or two each. I ordered pulled chicken which was good, but I ended up just eating the meat out of the sandwich and the 2 sides of corn and rice and beans. We stayed until 10 or so and then it was time for bed.
Saturday

  •    Sat morning I woke up early to get a 5 mile run in before more family arrived. It felt good, even though it was pretty chilly outside.
  • The rest of Saturday was spent with family, eating, laughing, and sharing memories. I met many cousins and relatives I had not had the chance to meet before which was really nice. Such interested people, with great stories and warm hearts.
  • We eventually ended our day eating pie and pizza as a big group in the hotel breakfast room which was perfect for our group of 20. We brought down wine and beer and a little Whisky and just enjoyed each others company.
Sunday:
  • Sunday I needed to get a long run in. Gregs mom, dad, sister, and sisters boyfriend stayed the night at our place sat night so we all woke up early to greet the day. Gregs dad, sister and her boyfriend Ben had to head out early so they went off to get bagels with Greg and Gregs mom and I headed ou on a run. We ran 6 of the 10 miles I had on schedule together. It was a ton of fun. We ran all around central square and Harvard square looking at the beautiful houses and chatting. Although Susan, Gregs mom will tell you she held me back, I probably had the most fun I’ve had on a run in a long time!! I was sad to drop her off at home before continuing my 4 remaining miles.
  •  After the run and a little food, we headed back to the hotel to chat some more and get some lunch before everyone headed to the airport. We walked down for a little Italian lunch which ws good, and a great way to end a busy weekend.
  •  Greg and I tag teamed rides to the aiport to drop everyone off for their respective flights and then I headed to the gym for a client.
  • Then it was Superbowl time. We relaxed on the couch and ate nachos while watching a heartbreaking defeat of the New England Patriots. Sad day. And the halftime show…. I can’t say I was such a fan. It seemed very chaotic and I had a hard time watching Madona perfom some of her moves, although I will give her credit that she is 53 ( I think) and is in pretty good shape!
Monday:

  • Today starts another week of marathon training. I hit all of my runs last week, the only thing I didn’t do was yoga…woops.
·        This week looks a little like this:

  •  Monday – strength
  • Tues – 3 miles race pace
  • Wed – 5 miles
  • Thurs – spin and 3 miles
  • Fri – rest and yoga?
  • Sat – 3 miles
  • Sunday – 6 miles
This is a recovery week which is why the distances don’t look as large. Can’t wait!

Springtime in February?

Wow, today was such a beautiful day.

It was around 48 degrees when I headed out or my run with Stacy. I had 5 miles on the books, Stacy had 4 so we compromised and ran 5.3. oops.

Last night I had my Physics class. It was fine, however a rule of thumb when sitting next to people you don’t know should be :avoid individuals eating huge funny smelling burritos, and people who smoke during every break possible. Yuck. It was less than a pleasant smelling 3 hours.

I did my 3 mile run yesterday which felt fine, but a little slow.  I cant complain given that I was pretty sore from Mondays workout which included a lot of deadlifts. Hello glutes!!

Not much to report on today, I had some clients, did some running, had a few more cleints and then came home to make stir fry. I found out from my doctors appointment last week and the blood test that followed that I am pretty anemic.

I decided I would take the stir fry opportunity to add a little red meat into the mix. We added cut up beef into the gigantic mix of veggies and rice. It was good, but I much prefer chicken or just plain veggies. I guess I’ll have to find another way to get a little extra iron in. Anyone have good supplement information?

Happy Hump day everyone!! I’m off to bed, I have to teach an early morning spin class.
